Our Work

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

Project Description:

Challenge: Build an online community platform and engagement strategy to connect and empower America's newest generation of more than 2 million veterans -- and the people who support them.

Solution: We have been working closely with the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America since 2008 to plan, design, deploy, and support an online engagement platform that unites and enables a rapidly growing community of (now) more than 150,000 veteran members and civilian supporters. IAVA is the country's first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The online engagement platform we developed for IAVA.org (and IAVAaction.org) leverages open source technologies and plays a critical role in the organization's daily operations -- from communications to advocacy to recruitment and community building.

One Congressional staffer told IAVA that IAVA.org was one of his top online destinations for information about veterans' issues because it was so easy to use and navigate. As an online recruiting tool, the website serves as the online hub for an broad-base national media campaign sponsored by the AdCouncil. And IAVA's online team relies on the platform regularly to launch timely and effective online campaigns that enable veterans to advocate on their own behalves.

Thousands of veterans have signed up to join the online Community of Veterans in order to connect with others who have served. Through this online social networking platform, veterans can find mental health, educational, and family resources, but more importantly, peer support from their fellow veterans.

We are proud to have worked with Executive Director Paul Rieckhoff and IAVA's membership team (along with our partners at the Engage Network) to further extend the breadth and depth of the new veterans movement through a local grassroots community building strategy.
