My mom the candidate

I can't believe it's been over a month and I still haven't blogged about the coolest project I've been involved with all year (no offense to our clients). My mom, Kristi Andersen, is running for Town Board in my hometown of Cazenovia, New York, and I've been helping with her campaign.

      Her website is at Caz05.com.

The whole process of getting the website (done in Wordpress) up was quite painless, mostly because we tried as hard as possible to just build off an existing template (note the resemblance to the Blix theme). The final site ended up being surprisingly close to the original comp. Neither my mom nor the other candidates on her slate are overly tech-savvy, but they've had no problem using the Wordpress interface. I, the prodigal internet consultant daughter, tried to explain html formatting tags to my mom, only to be rebutted with "Well, yes, I understand THAT. They're just like the formatting tags we used to use in word processing!"

I've also been working with a friend (and former Dean field staffer) to put together the campaign field plan. We called the county and had them send along a CD of the voter list, and used that to select targeted universes and put together walk lists, mailing lists, etc. Maybe after the campaign is over, I'll post it for everyone to look like (it's a good example of how to organize for a local race), but I can't do that yet--don't want the opposition knowing what she's up to!
