If it seems like there are more college students in the DC and Maryland area today than you are used to, don’t worry. If you’re in your car, or at home, and are puzzled at the sight of about 5,500 young people at the Capital, just hit up your wireless and type in www.powershift07.org.
Power Shift began on Friday and is going on right now as you read this post -- it's the first national youth summit focused on solving our climate crisis and is happening right here in our area. Power Shift 2007, a project of Energy Action Coalition, has organized this event to give these young leaders the tools to make great change back at home or on their college campuses.
Power Shift 2007 will arm a generation of young people to learn how to use the next 431 days as effectively as possible to ensure that in 2009, they pass a powerful, national plan to stop global warming. Think about changes these thousands of leaders will be able to make in their areas in just over a year!
And the event is going on right at this moment – over 5,000 young people are organizing to make a change. EchoDitto is very excited to partner with Power Shift for this remarkable and historical event and I think it’s particularly amazing that over 300 meetings have been arranged between Power Shift participants and Senators, Representatives, and their staff as part of today's Lobby Day.
The news doesn’t end there – the kick off of Power Shift on Friday also marked the launch of 1SKY, which we’re also proudly supporting: “Power Shift 2007 and 1Sky share a goal of making the U.S. Presidential candidates and Congress take meaningful action to stop global warming.”
Check out the "It's Getting Hot in Here" blog, where participants have been blogging about Power Shift all weekend.
