driver’s license? I just learned that in the District of Columbia, you can request a duplicate driver’s license from the Department of Motor Vehicles online! Online! How great is that? How do I know this? Let’s just say that I might not actually be in possession of said license, maybe, sort of, but that is beside the point. Anyway, the big trick with the online duplicate request, in my opinion, is that you need to have your license number. It used to be, in the olden days, that they used your SSN for that, but times have changed. Of course I never recorded this very important set of digits. The possibility of needing to head down to the actual DMV office made me break out in hives! Finally, I remembered a place where it had been recorded and *bam*! A few strokes of the keyboard and a $7 charge to my debit card and I am on my way to once again becoming properly licensed to drive.

To be quite honest, the DC DMV isn't nearly as bad as people make it out to be. It is certainly faster and more organized than Virginia's. And the fact that once you've made your initial visit you pretty much never have to go there again is just gravy.
