Visiting My Hometown

August 13, 2007 - 1:41pm

I recently had the opportunity to go sightseeing in my hometown. I was born and raised right here in Washington, DC. I am embarrassed to admit that I have never done the White House Tour or climbed to the top of the Washington Monument. As luck would have it, though, my friend Ana had never been to DC and was very excited to see the sights. She set her trip counter on her Facebook page and waited with wild anticipation for the day to arrive when we would dash about town experiencing all that DC has to offer. While I was puzzled by her excitement, I put on my best tourist outfit (sunglasses, backpack and good walking shoes), grabbed my camera and we were off. We rode the Double Decker Hop On Hop Off Bus and visited all 25 stops.

I am happy to report that beyond the blisters on my feet and the heat stroke I almost suffered, I had a ball. I really had a ball! I saw the city thru Ana’s eyes and noticed so many of the things that I take for granted. The very things I see every day. I live in a beautiful city with amazing and historic surroundings. Thanks for reminding me, Ana, and come back and visit soon!

yea it's so weird how we never really visit the places where we live, but we manage to see everything when we only have a limited time somewhere...
