EchoDitto Blog

It seems like every other day we hear a news story about a major site being hacked and users' information and passwords being stolen. A new service called onetimesecret.com won't stop hackers but it will make a common thing we all do much more secure.

How often do you have to send passwords, logins, or other sensitive information via email or IM? All the time, right? Well, onetimesecret.com is an ingenious way of making that task much more secure. more

      Stopping SOPA

      By: Tony Guzmán  |  December 16, 2011

The title of this post says it all - the innocently-named proposed piece of legislation called the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) must be stopped. While aimed at stopping online piracy, instead it proposes a scary set of rules that will in effect create a censorship bureaucracy and threaten the entire future of the internet as we know it. more

      Launching the new Demos.org

      By: Tony Guzmán  |  November 22, 2011

I’m often asked what I do and I always have trouble explaining it. Sometimes I use the analogy that I’m an interpreter translating complex technical speak to real-world needs. Recently, I’ve started using the analogy of a midwife who sees a project through from conception to the birth of a new site (interestingly, many projects do take about 9 months. Hmm). more

      CiviCRM - Reunited at last

      By: Tony Guzmán  |  February 15, 2011

Two years ago I was in a committed, long-term relationship with CiviCRM. I was, admittedly, enamored with it. Sadly, over my first year at EchoDitto, CiviCRM and I grew apart. We talked less, barely hung out, and eventually became distant memories for each other. This was because most of my projects here have so far been focused on large scale Drupal development projects and online strategy that left CiviCRM falling by the wayside. more

      Drupal 7, here we come!

      By: Tony Guzmán  |  December 17, 2010

Last week, I was able to attend an all-day Drupal training put together by Drupal Therapy. While it (the training) covered everything from installing modules to creating content, it was geared toward showcasing some of the changes coming with the pending release of Drupal 7. more

Service and volunteering has many faces. It can involve volunteering at your local food bank, phone banking for your local environmental organization, or tutoring students. This Veterans Day (November 11th), a national campaign called Mission Serve is asking all Americans to think of service in a broader way. Mission Serve aims to build a bridge between the sacrifice and service our military veterans have given to our country and the work so many Americans do every day to strengthen our communities. more

Toxic coal ash. The words alone do a great job of conjuring up images of the dirty substance that it is. On the eve of hearings that would address the regulation of this waste product left over from the generation of electricity from coal power plants, The Sierra Club embarked on a campaign to encourage the public to submit comments in support of increased regulation for the dangerous substance. more

One of my earliest memories is standing on a street corner in the Mission district of San Francisco with my mom -- she’s handing out fliers and talking to passersby about the (first) Iraq War. Activism and working for social justice is in my blood. I’m filled with pride every time we launch a website or finish a project because I know how important our clients’ work is in bettering the world. more
